Best Independent Business Announced

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake has announced the winners of his Best Independent Business in Carshalton and Wallington 2013 Competition.

The Roast & Ground café in Carshalton High Street, has beaten off rivals and has been crowned the 'Best Overall Independent Business in Carshalton and Wallington'. Rhubarb and Bramley in Carshalton High Street won the 'Best Shop Front' while Maxime Wools in Carshalton Beeches scooped the award for the 'Best Customer Service'.

Roast & Ground is a family-run business. Founded in January 2010, it provides excellent food and coffee and a friendly service. The café has become a favourite place for many to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

Mr Yusuf Akkoc, owner of the winning café, said: "Everyone at Roast & Ground are very happy and proud to have won the competition. We would like to thank everyone for their support and all of our customers for voting for us."

"We are proud to offer the highest quality food and coffee whilst providing our customers with a friendly and personable service. We promise to keep up the standard and are already looking forward to next year's competition!"

Asked about the secret of a winning independent business, Mr. Akkoc said: "We always strive to treat our customers in a personal and friendly manner. At the end of the day, we want every visitor to feel welcome and to enjoy themselves."

Tom has been campaigning to save independent traders from the threat of the multi-national chains and has been working to promote local independent businesses. It was the first edition of the competiton org anised by Tom Brake to celebrate and promote

independent local businesses in Carshalton and Wallington. Over 600 residents voted for their favourite places to eat, drink and shop.

Tom said: "I'd like to thank to all those who voted and showed their support for our independent retailers."

"We are really lucky in our area to have so many brilliant and unique independent retailers. This competition was a way of letting them know how much we appreciate and support them."

Three residents drawn at random who nominated the winning shops received £50 of gifts or £50 to be spent in their nominated winning shop.
