Last Wednesday Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington dropped by Grange Restaurant in Beddington Park, to join members of Milan Group Wallington for a celebratory Diwali dinner, following his previous attendance at Navaratri celebrations in the constituency.

Diwali, or Deepavali, is the Hindu festival of lights celebrated every year in the autumn. It forms a key part of the Hindu religious calendar, and signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Its celebration includes lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings in the communities and countries where it is observed.

Tom enjoys engaging with events in the Hindu community.

Speaking after the event, Tom said:

“I had a wonderful time, feasting on good food and good company with Milan Group Wallington as part of their Diwali celebrations. Diwali is a beautiful festival and I was very happy to drop in to support their event.
At a time when community tensions seem to be rising, it is more important than ever that communities come together to celebrate their differences and share their culture. In this way we can build a country which is proud of its own diversity. The Hindu community in Carshalton and Wallington have always been very welcoming to me, and I thank them for their continued hospitality.”
