Commenting on the announcement yesterday afternoon of the candidates who will challenge for the Carshalton and Wallington parliamentary seat, Tom said:
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to be the MP for Carshalton and Wallington over the last 20 years and I've never been more fired up about the work that lies ahead.
The best part of my job is being able to help local people – whether it’s sorting out housing problems, working tirelessly to improve train services, protecting St Helier hospital, or campaigning against school cuts. I am so proud of what we have achieved together, and know that local people will judge me on my record.
This election is about who will fight your corner and stand up for our area. While the Conservatives offer more cuts to our schools and hospitals, the Lib Dems will invest to ensure that we look after the ill and the elderly, and give the next generation a fair chance in life.
There is a clear choice here between me and the Conservatives – without a credible Lib Dem opposition, I am afraid that the Tories will take local residents for granted.
On June 8th, we must not give the Tories a blank cheque to steamroller through their policies and put at risk the future of our local hospital and schools.”
