Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake has endorsed a letter written to local media by Wallington business leader Karim Fatehi. In his letter, the two-time winner of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise has warned of the negative impacts Brexit could have on small businesses.
“My worry is that if we leave the EU, the amount of paperwork we will have to do when trading with other EU countries will go up, as will our costs. Furthermore, we will end up paying a significant amount of import duty and taxes for the goods and materials we import from the EU into the UK.
“This will be bad for business, our employees and suppliers. This is why I believe people should vote Remain on Thursday.”
“Another day closer and we’ve heard from another business leader. Karim has been a strong contributor to Sutton’s economy for decades, and I trust his judgement. Brexit threatens the ability of local businesses like Karim’s to remain competitive in a global economy. The fact that Karim has already considered moving parts of his business outside of Britain, because of Brexit, shows the seriousness of the situation. We’ve got to protect local jobs, and that’s why it’s so important we vote to remain on Thursday.”
Karim Fatehi is the Managing Director of United Corporation Ltd and has a team of 25 employees in his Wallington office in Stafford Road. Britain will vote in the EU referendum on June 23rd.
