At the charity’s head office and treatment centre in Leatherhead, Mr Brake met Chief Executive Sue Freeth and Coulsdon veteran Tom Fox.

They spoke about the issue of veterans’ mental health, its impact on their families, and of the different support and treatment programmes Combat Stress provides to former servicemen and women.

Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:

"It was a real pleasure to meet with local veteran Tom and the Combat Stress team. I was pleased that he was able to share with me the impact on him of serving our country overseas and his life since.

"Combat Stress is a brilliant charity who have been helping former servicemen and women deal with mental health problems for nearly 100 years.

"They provide effective peer-to-peer support, giving veterans the help they need from people who have a very real idea of what they are going through -- as well as support from experienced professionals."
