Local MP Tom Brake is backing Citizen’s Advice’s new ‘Advice for the Future’ campaign which aims to highlight the importance of free, impartial advice and get 100,000 people pledging their support.
Tom Brake MP said:
“From payday loans and employment problems to benefit appeals and homelessness, the advice that the Citizens Advice Bureau offers to local residents is a life-line for many.
“We must do all that we can to ensure people like Citizens Advice can continue to provide such vital support.”
Gillian Guy, Citizens Advice Chief Executive, said:
“Citizens Advice is here to help people get back on their feet. As people’s lives become ever more complicated and many struggle to make ends meet it is more important than ever that we are at the heart of communities, ready to help.
“For 75 years, the Citizens Advice service has provided free, confidential advice to millions of people. We also campaign to address the problems at the root and make a lasting difference to people’s lives.
In 2013/14 the charity helped 2 million people to solve 5.5 million problems and in 2012/13, 22,000 volunteers donated nearly 7 million hours to the service, amounting to a contribution of £109 million worth of volunteering hours.
