Carshalton and Wallington unemployment slashed for a fourth month

Unemployment in Carshalton and Wallington falls for a fourth consecutive month according to official numbers.

The Office for National Statistic (ONS) announced last week that the number of unemployed claimants in April 2014 was 1,336 – 642 lower than in April 2013 and 66 lower than the previous month, the biggest monthly fall since November 2013.

Carshalton and Wallington MP, Tom Brake said: “I’m absolutely delighted by this news, month after month more local residents are reaping the rewards of economic recovery and growth.

Despite this success, our work will not stop, there is still more to be done.

The number of residents claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance is now at 2.7%, sympathetically lower than the national average of 3.6% and the London average of 3.8%.
