Tom Brake is among many local leaders praising Sutton Council for attracting jobs to the local area, helping to cut the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance by 430 since June 2015. Carshalton & Wallington had one of the lowest claimant rates in the country, coming 625th out of 650 constituencies.
Among these statistics there was also a decrease in the number of people claiming Universal Credit and in the number of 18-24 year olds claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance. This clearly shows that the pro-business stance taken by Sutton Council and the abundance of skilled labour within Carshalton & Wallington, is providing the necessary conditions for new businesses to flourish. With over £410 million invested since 2012, Sutton is fast becoming one of outer London’s development and investment hotspots.
Tom, reacting to the impressive figures said: ‘Businesses and entrepreneurs are seeing that Carshalton & Wallington is a fantastic area to invest in. Whether it is new traditional businesses in the form of Dotty’s Teahouse or services such as the Antics fitness class, job opportunities are being created for people of all ages. There is more to do but Sutton Council is helping to create the right environment for local business and their employees.’
