Tom Brake MP joined young volunteers to celebrate four years and over 25, 000 hours of youth volunteering on Sutton's Millennium Volunteers scheme. Young people aged 16 - 24, who have completed 200 hours of voluntary work supporting local charities and other organisations locally, were presented with their Millennium Volunteers 'Awards of Excellence'. These awards, signed by the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, have proved an excellent way to help young people prepare for further education and working life - with many of the Millennium Volunteers building on the skills and experience they have gained through the scheme.

Mr Brake, who is a volunteer Trustee of local charity Centre for Environmental Initiatives who manage Sutton's Millennium Volunteer project, was particularly delighted to hear that many of the young people who have completed the scheme still maintain a continued commitment to volunteering in the community. Mr Brake said, "I hope that young people in Sutton who have take part in the Millennium Volunteers scheme will make volunteering the habit of a lifetime."

Sutton's Millennium Volunteers project was last year's regional winner in the Millennium Volunteer Reducing Crime category beating 32 other London Boroughs for the title. If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
