Enough is enough

August 24, 2004 12:00 AM

The latest sewage flood, courtesy of Thames Water, was the last straw for some residents in a street in Carshalton.

Tom Brake MP, whose office was deluged with calls from disgruntled residents, will be challenging Thames Water and the water regulator, Ofwat, to attend a meeting with residents in Carshalton.

Tom Brake explained, "For years, I have been receiving reassurances that the problem has been sorted. Yet it seems that every time there is a heavy downpour a new fault develops at their waste station. It is time Thames Water and Ofwat came to make a public apology for their failure to stop this offensive flooding and set out what action they will be taking to ensure it never happens again.

"Residents don't want a discount on their bills after each foul incident, they want peace of mind and the certainty that their gardens are safe when it rains."

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
