'Think globally, act locally' for tea at Downing Street

December 6, 2004 12:00 AM

Tom Brake's young constituents are invited to enter a special essay contest where the top three winners get a chance to have tea at Downing Street with Cherie Blair . The essay contest is based on the "think globally, act locally" premise and asks young people to set out, in 100 words or less, what actions they and their peers can take that will improve the local environment in Sutton.

Mr Brake said,

"I challenge my young constituents in Carshalton and Wallington to come up with novel ideas for how our everyday actions can improve our corner of the world."

Youngsters aged 9 to 15 who live in Carshalton, Wallington, Beddington, Clockhouse and some parts of Sutton are eligible to enter ( entrants can check their eligibility by ringing the House of Commons on 020 7219 3000 with details of their postcode).

The tea at Downing Street is scheduled for 27 January at 4.30 and one parent, guardian or carer should accompany each winner.

Entries should be sent to Tom Brake's constituency office at Kennedy House 5 Nightingale Rd, Carshalton SM5 2DN or his email account braket@parliament.uk by 5 pm on 7 January.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
