Epsom and St Helier University NHS Trust senior nurses left their injections, pills and nursing responsibilities behind on Monday, 6th February, when they travelled to Westminster to meet local MP Tom Brake.

Seven nurse managers and Mr Brake discussed the role and duties of MPs in society, as well as health and local topics. The visit is part of the Royal College of Nurses Clinical Leadership Programme to enhance political awareness amongst nurses and healthcare awareness amongst politicians.

Tom Brake MP said,

"I really value this regular exchange. It is an excellent opportunity for me to hear at first hand the concerns NHS professionals have about a wide range of issues including health. Hopefully it also gives them an insight in the work of Members of Parliament."

Jenny Muir, manager of the Clinical Leadership Programme, said,

"The programme really helps nurse managers to foster their political awareness and to understand what is happening in politics."
