Carshalton Resident Builds Home for Tsunami Victims

May 11, 2006 2:39 PM

Carshalton resident Caroline Takis will be armed with a hammer and nails next week when she visits Sri Lanka to build a house with Habitat for Humanity.

Caroline is being supported by The Reuters Foundation, the charitable arm of Reuters. The house Caroline builds will be for a family who lost their home in the Tsunami.

Caroline said, "I'm excited to be joining 19 of my Reuters colleagues to support a family in Hikkaduwa in southern Sri Lanka. I'm going to be part of the seventh global team from Reuters to be working with Habitat for Humanity in Sri Lanka."

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington added, "Housing is still in short supply more than a year after the Tsunami. This new house will make a huge difference to one Sri Lankan family. I urge people to give generously so even more homes can be built."

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
