Brake Acclaims South London Bangladesh Welfare Association

March 7, 2007 2:09 PM

On Sunday 4th of March, 2007 Tom Brake MP attended the Silver Jubilee celebration for and hosted by the South London Bangladesh Welfare Association.

The Association was celebrating their 25th Anniversary of service to the community. The Mayor and Tom Brake MP were invited as Special Guests to the event, held in Wallington Public Hall. Speeches and a cultural exhibition followed the traditional British curry lunch.

In his speech Tom Brake said, "I welcome the work of the Association. I especially applaud their desire to establish stronger links with local community." He added, "their work has been more than commendable so far and I hope they continue to exhibit their positive influence in years to come."

The South London Bangladesh Welfare Association was formed in 1981 by some expatriate Bangladeshis of South London to provide for the social and cultural needs, to promote their interests and assist those in the local community and worldwide in need. The Association now has a membership of approximately 200 men and women, and is solely financed by its members. Some of the work they have been involved in includes raising funds for charitable activities like diabetic treatment, restoring sight to the blind, and for the victims of natural disasters.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
