Brake Asks for Answers over Limited Resources for Dementia Services

August 31, 2008 2:29 PM

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington has written to the Department of Health pressing for more resources to be made available for the implementation of the new national strategy for dementia.

After hearing from worried constituents, who had been informed at a Dementia Strategy Consultation Event that there were limited resources available, Tom wrote to the Government asking how they will ensure that the strategy is fully delivered at a national and local level.

Commenting on his constituents' concerns Tom said 'The Government's new strategy on dementia is an important consultation process that seeks to improve the quality of life of those suffering from dementia. However, it is important to ensure that proper resources and funding are put in place to insure that the strategy is implemented properly.'

The Department of Health is developing a national strategy for dementia services, which was launched in June of this year. The consultation process is drawing on evidence from a wide range of reports and stakeholders, a series of listening events involving over 3,000 people and the recommendations of an External Reference Group. It invites everyone to give their views on the ideas set out in the document, as well as to contribute new ideas to the debate.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
