Brake Highlights Small Business Rate Relief Campaign.

September 4, 2008 12:00 PM

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington is backing a campaign to encourage local small businesses to see if they are available for Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR).

The SBRR campaign was launched by a company called LeaseholdersUnited who seek to make the UK property market more transparent and give all businesses the opportunity to cut their property costs now and keep them down in the future.

They claim that there are currently around 450,000 businesses entitled to, but not claiming, £260million of unclaimed small business rate relief.

Talking about this issue Tom Brake MP said that 'Small businesses are being hit by the credit crunch. This campaign will hopefully make them aware of the cash windfall they could be entitled to.'

It is simple to check if businesses are eligible for SBRR. By going to www.leaseholdersunited.com small businesses can see if they meet the criteria and if they are eligible an automatically generated claims form is produced which can be sent to the council.

Small businesses should note that the deadline for claiming is 30th September 2008.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
