Time for a Change at the Top of the Met

Commenting on the resignation of Sir Ian Blair, Liberal Democrat London and Shadow Home Affairs Spokesman, Tom Brake MP said:

"In spite of the real achievements achieved under Sir Ian, such as the introduction of neighbourhood policing, it was time for a change at the top of the Met.

"The allegations swirling around the upper echelons of London's police force were diverting attention from the Met's priorities of tackling terrorism and serious crime."

Sir Ian Blair in recent months has had to defend himself against allegations regarding PR contracts, mishandling of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, accusations of personal racism between senior figures and politicising his role in the debates on detention for terrorist suspects."
