Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, is backing Maggie Hughes' campaign for better support and advice for families affected by violent crimes or serious accidents whilst abroad.

Maggie Hughes launched the campaign after her son, Robbie Hughes, was brutally assaulted whilst on holiday in Crete.

Following a visit to Sutton last week during which Nick Clegg met Maggie, Nick said "We must make sure families are given all the help and support they need when tragedies occur abroad. I know that Maggie is an outstanding campaigner and has been working really hard on this issue, with Tom Brake's full support. I am pleased to pledge my support to the campaign and will be encouraging all Liberal Democrat MPs to do likewise."

Maggie and Tom have welcomed the news, describing Nick Clegg's support as, "another important step in our campaign to bring better and fairer support to British victims abroad."

Maggie's campaign has also received the backing of the Rt Hon David Cameron MP, Leader of the Conservative Party.
