New Support for Stroke Unit at St Helier Hospital

July 22, 2009 11:11 AM

Healthcare for London have announced today that St Helier's stroke unit will be linked to new world-class specialist centres in London, enabling the unit to receive expert support.

Tom Brake, who has campaigned passionately for the future of St Helier Hospital, welcomed the news saying,

"The inclusion of our St Helier in this programme is a positive step towards the renovation of St Helier. Its inclusion shows that Healthcare for London recognises the importance of St Helier Hospital for the local community.

"The support the unit will receive will be vitally important in enabling fast treatment of patients and will help to save lives and improve the quality of life for patients."

St Helier Hospital is one of a number of hospitals across London to have its local stroke unit linked up with larger specialist centres to form a wider frame work through London.

Together, the centres are expected to "radically improve" care for stroke and major trauma patients in. In addition St Helier will have a TIA (transient ischaemic attack) service to quickly treat patients suffering from more minor strokes.

If you are a resident of the Carshalton and Wallington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
