Tom is raising funds for St Raphael's Hospice in the Grim Challenge

Local MP Tom Brake has announced that he will take part in a gruelling 30km Duathlon on 17th October in order to raise money for St. Raphael's Hospice in Sutton.

This Duathlon, known as the 'Grim Challenge', will take place on an army testing site in Surrey where the local MP will face sand dunes, mud hills and knee-deep torrents to raise money for the local hospice. The course is made up of a 5km run, followed by a 20km cycle ride, ending with another 5km run to the finish line.

"The duathlon is going to be extremely challenging. Over the next few weeks, I'll be training with a local football team, tennis player and running club to get myself in tip-top shape" said Mr Brake.

"I hope that the event will encourage people to sponsor me when they can see that this Duathlon is no walk in the park! I want to show how important our local care services are for people in the area, and to offer my own contribution" said Tom.

St Raphael's Hospice offers special medical care to those facing life-threatening illness living in the boroughs of Sutton and Merton. The service provides high quality nursing skills as well as support to family and friends, completely free of charge. The hospice mainly relies on charitable donations from local individuals, groups and organisations.
