Local MP Tom Brake has signed up to the Royal British Legion's Manifesto and pledged to do his bit for British Troops.

The Royal British Legion's manifesto is designed to influence the manifestos of the political parties in the run up to the general election, to ensure that the next government does their bit for the whole Armed Forces family.

Commenting on the campaign Tom said 'I believe that the Government needs to do more to support the whole of the Armed Forces family to ensure that the duty of care to those who defend our country and their families is realised. '

The Manifesto calls for the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme to be kept under continual, independent review and for the Government bring all single and family accommodation up to the highest standard within the lifetime of the next parliament.

It also asks the Government to introduce health screening and monitoring for Service personnel and vulnerable dependants and to take measures to tackle poverty among older veterans and widows

Tom went on to say 'I have always been very supportive of the British Legion and feel that the Government needs to do more to recognise the enormous sacrifice made by our troops and their families.'
