New Era of Mature Politics - Brake

November 25, 2010 5:33 PM

Speaking to the Sutton Borough Liberal Democrats' AGM in Sutton on Wednesday, Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington, predicted the UK is entering into an era of mature politics. To a gathering of around 100 members from around the Borough, he said,

"Two party politics is well and truly dead, making the likelihood of future coalitions that much greater. This could spell an end to yaboo politics and the dawning of a more grown-up era when, just like the Coalition Government is doing now, political parties work together to find the best solutions to the country's problems.

Commenting on progress made by the Coalition so far he said, "Identity cards have gone, the imprisonment of children before they are deported will be going very soon and draconian powers to detain someone for 28 days before they are charged are on the way out. This is a Government that is delivering its programme."
