Local MP Tom Brake has urged parents to see if they qualify for free school meals to ensure that our schools are receiving as much funding as possible.

The Government has recently introduced a new pupil premium to increase funding for disadvantaged children. The Government will now provide additional funding for every student receiving free school meals. This means that beginning April 2011; every child on free school meals will attract an additional £430 of funding for their school.

Tom states: "We all want what's best for our children and providing a good education is the most important thing we can do for them. I want to see our local schools receive as much funding as possible and that is why I urge all parents to find out if they qualify for free school lunches."

To find out if children qualify a complete list of eligibility requirements can be found online at or parents may speak to their schools. Claims should be made to the school directly.
