Tom Brake MP Visits Euro Asian Centre

Following a hot and spicy vegetarian lunch with members of the Euro Asian Centre in Granfers Community Centre, Sutton, MP for Carshalton and Wallington Tom Brake spoke out to recognise its role in caring for local residents.

The centre is there to help elderly and disabled citizens, in particular but not exclusively those from the Asian community, and provides healthy lunches, opportunities for exercise and outings for its members.

Tom said: "I would like to thank all the members of the Euro Asian Centre for a wonderful lunch. The centre is doing great work and it was especially pleasing to see how it is benefiting people in our area."

The centre encourages its members to play board and card games to keep mentally agile as well as offering exercise classes each week. It also runs a weekly group for carers, something that Tom was keen to pick up on.

He said: "The carer's group shows a true appreciation of not only those who are vulnerable but also those who look after them. Caring can be a full time job, and these group meetings offer not only the opportunity to talk with and meet other carers but also the chance of a rest."

He continued: "The centre is organising an open day for potential members later this year in either June or July. I would encourage people to drop in to see what goes on there and how they could benefit from joining."

The centre is based at Granfers Community Centre on Oakhill Road in Sutton. Anyone looking for more information can call the centre on 020 8395 1220.
