To commemorate the Royal British Legion's 90th anniversary, local MP Tom Brake is urging local residents to help raise money for the organisation by holding 'Poppy Parties' across Sutton. The Great Poppy Party Weekend this year will take place between the 10th and 12th of June.

Tom said: "Poppy Parties are a great opportunity for our community here in Sutton to come together and celebrate the work that the Legion has done over the past 90 years, and to help them continue for many more."

Bruno Peek, National Coordinator for the Legion, said: "It doesn't matter whether it's a barbeque, a games evening, a fancy dress event or any of so many other wonderful and inventive ways of partying. Just help us and the many local authorities throughout the UK in making it a memorable occasion."

The Legion this year celebrates its 90th anniversary. It was created in 1921 to ensure the welfare of returning ex-servicemen along with their families, and in 1964 set up a Housing Association to help the growing number of veterans who could no longer manage living alone. The charity estimates that today it spends around £1.2 million a week on its work providing ex-servicemen and women across the country with medical, social and financial help.
