Adoption changes lives, says MP

November 5, 2012 10:36 AM

Local MP Tom Brake is using National Adoption Week to emphasise the importance of adoption in today's society. The week, which runs from 5th to the 11thNovember, helps to remind people about the backgrounds of the children waiting for adoption and the difference adoption can make in a child's life.

Tom said "So many children want nothing more than a loving family and a place to call home. The holiday season is almost here, and to celebrate with a family of their own would mean the world to these children."

4,734 children were adopted in England and Wales in 2011, which is an increase of 6 per cent since 2010 when there were 4,481 adoptions.

Tom said "In Sutton, currently 44 children between the ages of zero and 12 are looking for adoptive homes.Parenting of any kind requires responsibility and patience, but it's well worth it. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone interested in adopting to look into it for themselves. There's nothing more rewarding than changing a child's life."
