A trusty insight into trusteeship

November 5, 2012 2:54 PM

A video sharing the experiences of three trustees - including Tom Brake MP for Carshalton - has been created by the Volunteer Centre Sutton as part of National Trustees Week 2012.

The three trustees, Tom Brake MP, Jim Finch and Sam Smith were selected to tell their stories and encourage other people to get involved while raising awareness of trusteeship. Tom Brake, MP, said: "A trustee is one of the most rewarding positions one can hold in the community. The civic responsibilities of a trusteeship are incredibly fulfilling, and it's all for the benefit of others. As a trustee myself, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in giving back to the community."

The video was created to celebrate Trustees Week 2012; an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

It features personal anecdotes that portray trusteeship as both a challenging and rewarding experience, benefitting communities and charities alike. Of the 180,000 charities that are registered with the Charity Commission, more than half have at least one vacancy on their Board of Trustees.

Only 0.5% of current trustees are under the age of 24. This video hopes to inspire the younger generation to develop their skill set, expand their learning, and take on a leadership role as a trustee.
