Tom being trained on a train simulator.Last week local MP Tom Brake visited Southern's train simulator centre to experience at first hand just how difficult it is to drive a train.

The Carshalton and Wallington MP used the simulator at the suggestion of a train driver after tweeting about trains being delayed.

Tom said, "Just from 'driving' a train using a simulator, I can sense how difficult it is to bring a train smoothly to a halt, at exactly the right spot at the platform. Drivers face a tough challenge with our unpredictable and often chaotic weather conditions."

A spokesperson at Southern said: "This was a great opportunity for us to show Mr Brake some of the challenges our drivers can face. Our simulators are invaluable in helping our trainee drivers experience difficult weather conditions and other out of the ordinary situations before they encounter them for real.
