Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington was given a lesson on the environment to kick off Climate Week at St Mary's Catholic Junior School.

To mark the beginning of Climate Week, Mr Brake visited the group of Year 4s and 5s to learn a thing or two on being environmentally friendly. The pupils spoke about the impact of pupil eco-monitors who are constantly on the lookout to ensure no energy is wasted. However, they were proud to point out that everybody plays their part in planting trees and recycling as well as turning off unused computers and lights.

Not to be out-smarted, Tom was able to put his physics degree into good use by educating the pupils on the causes of greenhouse gases and the impact that the gases have on the environment.

Following the visit, Tom said "It was fantastic to see the remarkable array of green measures that have been taken at St Mary's Junior School."

"Not only were the pupils aware of why the measures were important, but also impressively committed to doing their bit."
