Hundreds of parents in Sutton to get help with childcare costs – Tom Brake MP

March 18, 2014 4:25 PM

A major childcare package is set to help 6210 parents in Sutton Liberal Democrat Tom Brake MP said today.

Working families will be given up to £2,000 to ease the cost of childcare as part of a scheme to be rolled out in Autumn 2015.

The Government has said it will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 per year for each child.

For example, it means a family with two children under 12-years-old could benefit by up to £4,000 as a result.

Tom said: "This is fantastic news for Sutton's hardworking families."

"The Liberal Democrats are committed to building a stronger economy and a fairer society and these reforms add to the ever-growing list of reforms such as the pupil premium and increased school funding, aimed at levelling the playing field and enabling all children to get on in life."

The Government has also said people on Universal Credit will get 85 per cent of childcare costs fully covered.

Mr. Brake added: "Parents will no longer be fearful of the costs of going to work."
