Carshalton and Wallington MP scores big for Cricket for Change

April 1, 2014 1:18 PM

Local MP Tom Brake scored a healthy £1,600 in donations for Wallington based charity Cricket for Change.

Over recent months, Mr. Brake put together events to conjure up vital funds for the charity. These included an auction with top flight cricket clubs donating equipment to auction off raising £400 as well as a comedy night with comedians generously donating their time and talent for the worthy cause.

Tom said: "Cricket for Change is an amazing charity that does truly exceptional work both here locally in Sutton as well as worldwide in countries such as Sierra Leone and Israel to name but two."

"In providing underprivileged young people with a different path and proper mentoring, they are helped to turn their lives around and look forward to a brighter future."

Cricket for Change aims to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people using cricket to take them on a journey of personal development in order to unlock their potential. In creating an environment where disadvantaged young people feel safe and valued, they can be shown how to make new choices and to think and act differently.

With over 30 years of experience, Cricket for Change demonstrates in the UK and around the world that cricket can be more than just a sport. It can have a profound and lasting impact on young people who are suffering from fear, stigmatisation or prejudice. It can bring people together. It can help create self belief in a young person with a disability who thinks more about what they can do rather than what they can't do.
