Independent Business competition returns for the second year running

Following last year’s success, MP for Carshalton and Wallington, Tom Brake, is again running his Independent Business competition with an exciting prize for the winner and one of their customers. The competition is a chance for local people to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity independent businesses bring to the area.

Local businesses are welcoming the competition, which features different categories ranging from the best local independent shop to the best local café/restaurant and pub. Last year’s winner, Roast and Ground eagerly competing again this year and residents are already casting their votes online. Local resident Luciana Costa praised the competition saying it, “Supports and encourages local business not to give up facing the big chains.”

Tom Brake said, “With so many successful independent businesses in the area taking part, this year’s competition looks to be an exciting one.

Making sure we celebrate and promote our local businesses is so important. Carshalton and Wallington has always had a strong sense of community and I’m so glad that so many people are getting involved and supporting their favourite cafés, shops, restaurants and pubs.

It’s not only a great way to promote local businesses but it also helps local residents discover new and interesting shops or cafes which they did not known about before.”

Carshalton’s Village Bakers who recently re-opened after a devastating fire last month said, “This is a great idea for engaging our local community with independent shops like ours.”

Anyone who casts their vote not only gets the satisfaction of helping their favourite local businesses but also has their name entered into a draw to win £50 to spend at their chosen business.
