Lib Dems: Mixed-sex wards must go

New figures have revealed the number of patients forced onto mixed-sex wards in the NHS has risen 38% in the past year. Lib Dems demanded an explanation for this rise from the Conservatives.

This comes despite a 2015 Conservative manifesto pledge to eliminate mixed-sex wards altogether and repeated assurances from senior Conservatives that their use would come to an end.

Tom Brake said:

“Forcing patients to share mixed-sex wards is an affront on basic human dignity. The Lib Dems and I are calling on the Conservatives to explain why they have dropped eliminating mixed-sex wards from their manifesto. Teresa May must recommit to ending this practice by properly funding the NHS and relieving some of the incredible pressure it is under.”
