Responding to a report by the MPs' Education Committee that teacher shortages in England are getting worse, Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary John Pugh said:

"Under this Conservative government teachers are feeling undervalued, stressed and demoralised."Teachers are facing growing workloads while their real-terms pay is set to be cut by thousands of pounds."It's no wonder schools are struggling to recruit the staff they need to provide a decent education for all."It's high time the cap on public sector wages was lifted so teachers were given the pay rise they deserve."The Governments must also urgently put in place measures to reduce teachers' workloads and improve morale in our schools."
