Local MP celebrates National Storytelling Week

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake celebrated National Storytelling Week last week by speaking about his love of books to pupils at Culvers House Primary School.

During his visit on 3 February 2014, Mr Brake was grilled by pupils about his reading habits. Amongst the many questions asked by the pupils at Culvers House Primary School, Tom was asked why he enjoyed reading, to which he replied “reading allows me to put any concerns or pressures aside for a moment and immerse myself into another world.”

He was also asked which was the longest book he has read and who is his favourite author.

Tom, who commended Culvers House pupils for their inquisitiveness, said about the importance of reading, “if children are encouraged to read at a younger age, not only does their ability to read increase, but so does their desire to read.”
