Local MP investigates help available to Sutton Job-Seekers on the work programme

An estimated 30% of Sutton residents are currently enrolled on the Work Programme, which is delivered by A4e, a leading public service provider. Last week, Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington visited the organisation and spent time talking to local job seekers about the support they are getting to find jobs and stay in work.

The Work Programme, now in its fourth year of operation, provides tailored support for unemployed customers who need more help to undertake active and effective job-seeking.

After the visit, Tom Brake said: “I was pleased to see the hands on individual approach being adopted at A4e to support people back into work. The number of JSA claimants in Carshalton and Wallington is 595 lower than in August 2013 and is steadily decreasing. This could not have happened without all local initiatives working together.”

A4e has been working hard to establish a team of professional staff with a range of specialist skills to support individuals across the UK. The flexibility given to providers of the Work Programme has meant that A4e has been able to create a number of innovative programmes and specialist training to support local customers.

Deep Khanna, A4e Business Leader in Merton said: “We are really proud of the work we are doing in Sutton, of our team and of the people we are helping, and we were pleased to be able to demonstrate this to local MP, Tom Brake. It was a very positive visit and a great chance for some of the job-seekers we support to speak directly to their local representative about their experiences.”

A4e is delivering the Work Programme on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Job Centre Plus.
