Future of the Broadway Post Office Hangs in the Balance

12.00.00am GMT Mon 8th Nov 2004

Tom Brake is to seek a parliamentary debate on the future of the Broadway Post Office following the Post Office's decision to close the Stafford Road and Croydon Road branches.

He will also be tabling an Early Day Motion to seek the support of other MPs in the fight to save this key branch.

Tom Brake explained, "We've lost two post offices but there is an outside chance we could save the third. The Post Office must recognise that they are not just a business, they provide a key public service, which many vulnerable and elderly people depend upon. The Broadway branch is central to that local community, and its loss, would be a real body blow to residents and businesses."

The Post Office is still considering the future of the Broadway branch after representations from local residents, Postwatch and Tom Brake MP.

Tom Brake received over 140 questionnaires from residents who wanted to keep the Broadway open.
