Nurses Share Views On Hospital Plans12.00.00am GMT Tue 2nd Nov 2004
Nurses and midwives from St Helier and Epsom hospital journeyed to Westminster (on 1 November) to meet with local MP Tom Brake to discuss the very topical "Better Healthcare Closer to Home" proposal. Mr Brake said, "It was a stimulating discussion on how the Better Healthcare Closer to Home initiative will change healthcare services in our local area. Our nurses and midwives work at the forefront of healthcare and they can offer invaluable insight into the strengths and pitfalls of the proposal. But the nurses at the meeting voiced the concern that they have had limited input into the consultation process. The views of nurses and midwives need to be taken into account and I have written to the consultation project director to ensure this is the case." The nurses and midwives made their visit as part of the Royal College of Nursing Clinical Leadership Programme course, which promotes political awareness amongst nurses and healthcare awareness amongst politicians.
