Post Office Campaign Comes Together

Commenting after today's meeting with Postwatch in the Civic Offices in Sutton, which was attended by leading local politicians, Tom Brake, Paul Burstow, Council Leader Sean Brennan and Cllr John Keys, Tom Brake MP said, "We had a very fruitful meeting. It is clear that there is broad agreement between Postwatch, the Council and MPs on the need to safeguard the Post Office network locally. The Post Office must recognise that they provide a public service, and that Post Offices are often the keystone that holds a whole community together. I hope that by the strength of our arguments and the evidence we will be able to produce that the Post Office will backtrack on at least some of the threatened closures."

Tom Brake and Paul Burstow, have followed up their Early Day Motion in Parliament with a request for a parliamentary debate.

To date, Tom Brake has received around 200 letters or questionnaires in support of keeping the Post Offices open, with the largest number calling for the Broadway to be kept open. With the closing date for the consultation approaching, Tom Brake is pressing residents to return their questionnaires as soon as possible.
