Deadline Looms For Post Office Survey

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 29th Sep 2004

Local MP Tom Brake is reminding constituents to send in their views on plans by Post Office Ltd to close up to nine sub-post offices in the London Borough of Sutton.

The six-week public consultation on post office closure will run until October 20, when a decision will be taken by the Post Office whether or not to keep the branches open. Otherwise, closures are scheduled to start as early as January. In the meantime, Mr Brake and Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow are meeting with consumer watchdog Postwatch to discuss the closure proposals.

Mr Brake said, "If we are to win the fight against the closure of our local post offices, local residents have to produce an avalanche of protests against these barmy plans."
