Tom Brake MP - Representing Carshalton and Wallington in Parliament since 1997

Brake makes two trips back to school in global bid for education

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th Apr 2004

As part of the Global Campaign for Education organised by the charities Oxfam and Save the Children, local MP Tom Brake is visiting two schools in the constituency in the space of a week. Last Friday, 23 April, Tom Brake visited Carew Manor to talk about global education provision. And on 30 April, Tom Brake will be visiting Stanley Park High School to speak to the Year 9 class.

Mr Brake said,

"The children I spoke to are very clued up about how important it is that children around the world have access to education. During my visit I was presented with some very striking posters which were designed by Carew Manor pupils. The posters show how schools and teachers can make such a difference to the lives of children in poor countries.

I will be arranging for the posters to be delivered to the PM at no 10 and the Chancellor at no 11 Downing Street so that Tony Blair and Gordon Brown know that here in Carshalton and Wallington, pupils are very worried about whether children in developing countries are getting the same educational chances as pupils locally.
