Tom Brake MP - Representing Carshalton and Wallington in Parliament since 1997

Brake helps promote local Fair Trade

12.00.00am GMT Wed 10th Mar 2004

Tom Brake MP joined his constituents in a Fair Trade discussion at the Carshalton Beeches Baptist Church. The event, which took place Saturday 6th March, was a success in selling fair trade products, as well as promoting this important issue.

Mr Brake said,

"For the past ten years, shoppers in Carshalton and Wallington have practiced ethical consumption through supporting Fair Trade. With their spending power they have enabled some of the world's poorest communities to trade out of poverty, but the income gap between the developed and the developing world is still too wide.

"This local Fair Trade event shows that concern about Fair Trade is growing. And buying Fair Trade products is something we can all do."
