International Community Post Iraq-Brake Addresses the Issue to Youth

12.00.00am GMT Mon 2nd Feb 2004

On Tuesday 3rd February 2004, Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat International Development spokesman will speak to hundreds of young people, at Westminster Day 2004, about international development and the future for the international community after Iraq.

Mr Brake will highlight the need for British aid to help rebuild Iraq and promote safe and democratic political stability in the country. He will explain that the reconstruction in Iraq is a long-term goal that involves participation and aid from the global community.

Mr Brake said:

"Once the deteriorating security situation has been brought under control, the top priorities for the global community are improving health and overall conditions within Iraq. These priorities will not be met if the $36 billion needed for reconstruction over the next five years is not provided by the International Community."

Westminster Day is a great opportunity for young people from around the UK to see and meet political figures. It is a wonderful opportunity to question those who make key decisions and is a great way for youth to become interested in the political process and to make their views heard by today's politicians.
