Brake Takes Up Cudgel for Commuters

12.00.00am GMT Thu 29th Jan 2004

Commuters' frustrations with the state of local train stations were raised directly with South Central's boss, Charles Horton yesterday (28 January) by local MP Tom Brake.

Tom Brake, MP for Carshalton and Wallington was until recently the Liberal Democrats' Transport Spokesman.

He said, "Our meeting had three positive outcomes! Wallington, Carshalton Beeches and Waddon stations were all apparently omitted from South Central's station painting and refurbishment programme. They are all now back on it!"

Tom Brake also raised the issue of the closed exit gate at Wallington station which forces commuters to walk under the underpass and the shabby appearance of the approaches to both Carshalton and Wallington stations.

South Central have promised to look into these matters.
