Tough Warning To Young Troublemakers In St Helier - Brake12.01.00am GMT Tue 8th Feb 2005 After receiving complaints from local residents about the anti-social behaviour on St Helier estate, local MP Tom Brake is calling on Sutton's top cop to review policing provision in the area. Local residents have recently suffered vandalism, car theft, nuisance and burglary and they have sought help from Mr Brake. Mr Brake has asked Robert Reed, the Borough's Senior Police Officer and John Deer, who is in charge of Neighbourhood Wardens, to join him at a meeting with residents of the St Helier estate. Mr Brake said, "St Helier residents are proud of their community and they have every right to be angry about the loutish behaviour of a few trouble-makers. I recently went on patrol with the local police in Roundshaw and it is obvious that more police officers, community support officers and neighbourhood wardens on patrol deter anti-social behaviour. Liberal Democrats would recruit an extra 10,000 police officers and an extra 20,000 community support officers as it is their presence on the streets that will deter anti-social behaviour. This would be paid for by scrapping Government plans to introduce ID cards, a scheme likely to cost over 3 billion pounds."
