More Money For Safer Stations

It is all change for safer stations in Carshalton and Wallington. Local Parliamentary Candidate Tom Brake, who is a long-time campaigner for more investment in local train stations, welcomed the announcement by Transport for London and Southern Metro that Carshalton, Carshalton Beeches, Hackbridge and Wallington stations are due to receive over £200,000 in investment. The stations will receive new CCTV cameras, Help Points and will be covered by the new CCTV Control and Customer Information Centre based at Streatham Hill station.

The new CCTV Control and Customer Information Centre will be staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Centre will also reassure passengers by providing accurate information and the facility to speak to a member of staff by activating a Help Point. Tom Brake has visited the Centre.

Tom Brake said,

"The investment in safer stations is long overdue. The CCTV Centre will help reduce crime and vandalism and will make people feel safer while using public transport."

"Ever since I was first elected as a MP for Carshalton and Wallington in 1997 I've been vigorously campaigning for investment in our trains and train stations."

"I am therefore very pleased that Transport for London has finally made these funds available and would expect them to invest in making trains run more punctual as well."
