Residents say no to T-mobile mast

Tom Brake MP and Cllrs Derek Yeo and Lal Hussain joined around forty residents at the Good Shepherd Church in Carshalton Beeches to hear their concerns about the erection of a T-mobile telecommunications mast close to the Church on the corner of Gaynesford Road. Residents have so far collected over 600 signatures on their petition opposing the mast.

Tom Brake pledged his support for their campaign and has already written to the Managing Director of T-mobile asking him to consider relocating the mast, away from an area with a pre-school and many young children who attend the church and church events. The Deputy PM, Ardent (T-mobile's managing agents) and Sutton Council are also being contacted.

Tom Brake said, "Unfortunately the telecommunications companies are a law unto themselves. I hope however that pressure from residents will encourage T-mobile to make an immediate u-turn and acknowledge that erecting a mast in this area is not an option."

The closing date for objections is the 13th September 2005. The planning reference is C2005/54664/TOW.
