ROTHERFIELD ROAD PLANS COULD WRECK CARSHALTON VILLAGE - BRAKE

2.17.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 11th Oct 2005

Local MP Tom Brake is backing the Rotherfield Road Action Group in its bid to halt a proposed development adjacent to one of Carshalton's more popular conservation areas.

Sutton-based developer Wren Homes wants to build 11 one-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom self-contained flats where four houses presently stand in Rotherfield Road.

But Rotherfield Road Action Group (RAG) have outlined a number of concerns about the proposed Wren development to Mr Brake, including the negative effects of a high-density development in a village setting and the likelihood of transport problems in an area already struggling to cope with traffic.

Tom Brake MP noted,

"Residents are right to want to preserve the village nature of Carshalton. This is what makes Carshalton special. This development is completely out of keeping in a residential street."

The application is due to be heard at a development control meeting in November.
