'How Clean is Your Hospital' - Brake

3.00.00pm GMT Mon 31st Oct 2005

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington rolled up his sleeves and 'donned his rubber gloves' on a tour of St Helier Hospital on Friday morning. The aim of his visit was to check the cleanliness of a number of wards. He was accompanied by Paul Haslett, the Environmental Services Manager and Charles Mantillas, the Cleaning Services Manager.

Commenting at the end of his inspection, Tom Brake said, "In previous years, constituents have regularly contacted me to complain about the state of the wards and cleaning of the toilets and other facilities at the hospital. But it is clear that huge strides have been made in the last eighteen months or so. The staff and patients I spoke to were very satisfied with the cleaning. They like having dedicated cleaners responsible for individual wards."

His tour took in A6 ward, A+E and Oral Surgery amongst other wards.

Tom Brake arranged to drop in on the hospital after he was informed that members of the public were able to visit. He will be returning, unannounced, in the near future to carry out a further inspection.
