Sutton MPs Tom Brake and Paul Burstow are backing Sir Menzies Campbell to be the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

The leader is elected in an all-member ballot of Liberal Democrat members. Sir Menzies Campbell is supported by leading Liberal Democrats including former leaders Paddy Ashdown and David Steel.

Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow, who is the agent for Menzies Campbell leadership campaign, said,

"Sir Menzies Campbell is national leader, not just a party leader.

"More Liberal Democrat MPs are backing Menzies Campbell than both his opponents put together. I have seen his qualities every day in Parliament and I will be voting for Sir Menzies Campbell.

"Sir Menzies Campbell is an instinctive liberal with the determination and passion to inspire new supporters.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake said

"These recent weeks have been turbulent times for the Liberal Democrats and the party will benefit from Sir Menzies Campbell's professionalism and strong judgement.

"Sir Menzies Campbell is a serious politician with genuine stature and authority. He is respected by people across the political divide and will provide the Liberal Democrats with principled leadership and real credibility.

Members of the Liberal Democrats in the London Borough of Sutton will be receiving their ballot papers for the election from 7th February onwards.
